I don’t think I could find anyone who would argue that Fall in the beautiful state of colorful Colorado is absolutely stunning. I had actually never done Hildebrand Ranch family photos before. Colorado until this sweet little family session. I knew that the family wanted a beautiful backdrop but didn’t want to drive super far from Denver. So, I did my research and found this popular family photography spot in Littleton. I was a little bit bummed to find out that there were at least 6 other photographers there shooting; including one massive group of high school homecoming go-ers dressed to the nines. But I was able to photograph around the crowds to give their session a “we were the only ones there” kind of vibe.
The grass is just starting to transform into that lovely golden Fall color and the cottonwood trees at the start of the trailhead had gorgeous bright yellow spots in them. We started out in the tall grasses with the Cottonwoods as a filter because it was a super sunny day and there’s no trees to filter the bright sun out in the open, hilly part of Hildebrand Ranch.
I’ll be completely honest with you, I probably will not be returning to this location very often due to the crowds. I find it a lot more challenging to photograph a family in an intimate and emotive fashion when there’s dozens of other people in the same spot. I’m really passionate about capturing families in that way, so this was not really conducive to my photography style.
I may try coming back for some more Hildebrand Ranch family photos again in the Winter months, since I know things will slow down a bit for most photographers and maybe it will be less crowded. I would love to see what it looks like covered in a blanket of fresh snow.
