I have been always will be a huge fan of lifestyle family sessions, but my absolute favorite way to capture a family is in the coziness and familiarity of their own home. There’s just nothing better than documenting a family in the place that they spend the majority of their lives, doing every-day things like snuggling up on the couch or playing in the back yard.
Have you ever day-dreamt of your childhood, fondly remembering the way you’d play silly games with your siblings and then realized that you can’t remember the details of your childhood home? The layout of the home, the way the sun shone bright into the living room windows in the early morning, lighting up the dust that had been disturbed as everyone got ready for the day in a frenzy. That’s precisely why I stress the importance of in-home lifestyle family sessions. They don’t only tell a bit of your family’s story, they also capture you and your loved ones in your favorite spots in your home.
I was especially honored to capture this Denver lifestyle family session. One of the Hardins’ sweet pups was elderly and super sick, and they were told that they weren’t going to have much time with her. The family asked me to come into their home to document their daughter and their two sweet fur babes. There’s nothing forced about an in-home lifestyle family session. I simply document the story unfolding in front of me. I capture the natural interactions; the connection and the love. Shortly after the Hardin session, their sweet fur-baby passed away, so they were super grateful to have these moments documented.
