The Oxford Hotel | Denver wedding photos by Lark Bunting Photography
About the Oxford Hotel:
The Oxford was built in 1891, making it the longest surviving hotel in Denver at a whopping 132 years old this year.
In the 1870s, the city of Denver transformed into a major railroad hub and Union Station was built in 1881. Local building tycoons soon recognized the need for a high-end hotel in Denver near Union Station, the Oxford was designed by architect Frank E. Edbrooke and finished in 1891.
The Oxford has seen many renovations in its time including several expansions to accommodate increasing guest counts. The hotel features a beautiful collection of artwork pieces some over 120 years old. A wedding at the Oxford hotel doesn’t require much in the way of decorating, the hotel has its own historic ambience and charm.
Sally + Andrew’s Oxford Hotel Wedding:
When most people think about the “typical” Colorado wedding, a sprawling several-hundred-acre ranch with a stunning mountain backdrop is often what comes to mind. However, nothing says “Denver Wedding” quite like a classic wedding at the oldest surviving hotel in Denver. This Oxford Hotel Wedding is the most classic and elegant wedding I have ever had the honor of photographing. The simple details chosen by the couple were the perfect compliment to the already-beautiful historic venue.
The day started out a bit crazy. Valet parking is free at The Oxford (mind you, my car is full of crushed goldfish and tiny dirty socks and I have never in my entire life used valet parking – bless the poor valet guy who had to park my car). As I navigated the bustling one-way streets in downtown-Denver, I passed by the valet parking sign out front of The Oxford at least three times without spotting it. I managed to get my car parked out front without hitting any pedestrians, handed my keys over to a very sharply-dressed valet and headed into the stunning 132-year-old hotel lobby.
Before the wedding party made their arrival, I photographed all of the stunning architectural details inside the lobby. Everything from floor to ceiling was beautifully crafted back in 1891 when the Oxford was built.
Sally and Andrew celebrated their love with family and friends who traveled from near and far to help them celebrate and witness their marriage.
This was definitely one of the most fun and energetic wedding crowds. They danced the night away during their Oxford Hotel reception and sang their hearts out along with the live band. Keep on scrolling to see all of my favorite shots from Sally and Andrew’s Denver wedding.
